Raw Material Season 7: Visions of Black Futurity

Visions of Black Futurity is Season 7 of The Raw Material Podcast—a podcast created in partnership with the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. This series looks to the history of the Black Arts Movement in California to begin to envision a future of Black art that exists outside of museums.

Using archival materials, community visioning sessions, and interviews with contemporary Black Bay Area artists, this podcast seeks to highlight the life and work of EJ Montgomery, a visionary curator, artist, and organizer of Black artistic spaces in the Bay Area in the 60s and 70s. We take all that we can learn from her life and work, in hopes of building a better Black Art Future. We conducted all the creative work, research and production on this season.
