Echo Coop is a collective of artists making audio guides, podcasts, sound walks, and other experiences for the public.

What We Do

We collaborate with cultural institutions and communities to create work that asks difficult questions about the past, creatively utilizes archival materials to draw out an experience of history, and fosters curiosity about the present.

Why We Do It

Cultural institutions like museums and archives are at a moment of reckoning with having not been accountable to the communities they were created to serve. We believe that sound is a powerful tool for asking difficult questions, exploring complex truths, and connecting people to the wonders of the world around them.

What does it mean for cultural institutions to care about people as much as objects?

Museum and cultural center interpretation sometimes confines the stories of objects and places to the past, making them seem static and distant.

Rich audio allows listeners to simultaneously exist in different times and spaces, illuminating how objects and places live and breathe both in the past and in the present.
